The
first
astonishing
difference
is
the
stuff
found
in
the
grocery
store
usually
isn’t
soap
at
all!
That
is
why
you
often
see
wording
on
wrappers
like
‘beauty
bar’
or
‘cleansing
bar’.
But
if
it
isn’t
soap,
what
IS
it?
Most
of
what
you
find
on
grocery
store
shelves
are
really detergents.
Detergents
are
made
from
synthetic
ingredients,
and
heavily
cleans
ALL
surfaces.
This
might
be
great
when
you
are
scrubbing
the
bathroom
tile,
but
not
when
you
are
washing
your
face!
Most
detergents
clean
by
stripping
away
the
top
layer
–
whether
that
is
dirt,
oil,
natural
moisture,
or
even
skin
(typically
in
sensitive
areas
such
as
your
face). |
But
sometimes
through
pure
luck
when
what
you
find
in
the
grocery
store
really
is
soap,
even
then
you
have
to
keep
an
eye
out!
The
major
difference
between
‘real’
soap
and
commercial
bars
is
the
glycerin
content.
Glycerin
is
a
natural
by-product
of
the
soap
making
process,
and
commercial
manufacturers
remove
it
because
it
is
a
valuable
commodity
that
can
be
sold
as
a
lucrative
by-product.
‘Real’
soap
still
has
the
natural
glycerin
that
the
soap
making
process
creates.
You
see,
glycerin
is
a
"humectant"
which
is
a
substance
that
attracts
moisture,
so
soap
with
glycerin
moisturizes
your
skin.
